FLUX.2: Black Forest Labs' New AI Image Model Explained

FLUX.2 is Black Forest Labs' latest text-to-image and image-editing model, released on November 25, 2025.

It upgrades the FLUX.1 architecture with multi-reference conditioning (keeping character, layout and style consistent across up to 10 reference images), 4-megapixel output for both generation and editing, sharper text rendering, hex color steering and sub-second generation.

It ships in several variants so you can trade quality for speed depending on the job.

FLUX.1 shipped three tiers: Schnell, Dev and Pro.

FLUX.2 expands that into a full ecosystem and adds capabilities FLUX.1 did not have.

The headline upgrades are multi-reference conditioning (up to 10 reference images, so a character or product stays consistent across a set), 4-megapixel resolution for generation and editing, and noticeably better text rendering, long a weak point for FLUX.1.

It also adds hex color steering for exact brand colors and real-time grounding search.

In head-to-head win-rate tests, FLUX.2 [Dev] led all open-weight models with a 66.6% win rate in text-to-image and 63.6% in multi-reference editing.

Pick by the trade-off you care about. Choose FLUX.2 [Pro] when final quality matters most, for hero images, ads and client work.

Choose FLUX.2 [Dev] for fast iteration and open-weight flexibility. Choose FLUX.2 [Flex] if you want to fine-tune the model to a specific product or art style.

Choose FLUX.2 [klein] when you need speed or on-device generation, it produces images in under a second on consumer GPUs, which suits high-volume or interactive use.

FLUX.2 is strongest at photorealistic and design-grade images where consistency and text both matter: product shots that reuse the same item across angles, ad creative that must hold a brand color and legible copy, character sets that stay on-model, and detailed 4-megapixel edits.

You can access FLUX.2 through Black Forest Labs' own endpoints, through cloud platforms that host it, or inside creative tools that bundle it.
