How the math works

The calculator does two things side by side: your current cost per video (production minutes × hourly rate + any stack subscriptions) and your AI cost per video (AI production minutes × hourly rate + FluxNote plan cost amortized).

For the AI workflow, we use 5 minutes per video by default — based on prompt-to-export time on FluxNote with a typical 30–60 second short. That includes script generation, voiceover (ElevenLabs), AI visuals (Sora 2 Pro, Veo 3, Kling 3.0, or any of 11 video models), and caption sync. Adjust if your workflow is faster or slower.

For manual workflows, 90–180 minutes is realistic for a solo creator using basic tools. Agencies and high-end production can go higher. The default is 120 minutes. The hourly rate default is $40 — adjust to match your actual cost.

What's not in the calculator: the value of differentiated content, the brand-fit quality difference between AI and human-shot footage, and the ramp-up time on a new AI tool. Those matter for your decision but aren't reducible to a single number.

The fastest workflow: remix a trending format

The biggest time-cost in manual video production is figuring out what to make. AI Remix cuts that by starting from a format that's already working — TikTok, Reels, YouTube Shorts, or UGC ads — and generating your version in under 5 minutes.

Frequently asked questions

How is the manual production time estimated?

We use industry benchmarks for short-form video: 90–180 minutes per finished 30–60 second video for a creator working solo with a basic editing tool. This includes scripting, recording or stock sourcing, editing, captions, and export. The calculator uses 120 minutes as the default. Adjust the slider to match your actual time.

What's the assumption behind the AI workflow time?

FluxNote-style AI workflows produce a 30–60 second short-form video in 3–8 minutes from prompt to export, including script generation, voiceover, AI-generated visuals, and caption sync. The calculator uses 5 minutes as the default. Setup and review aren't included — those depend on your workflow.

Why use hourly rate instead of a flat per-video cost?

Hourly rate is the most universal way to compare production cost across creators, agencies, and in-house teams. Whatever your effective hourly cost is — your own time, a freelancer's, a junior editor's — multiplying it by production minutes gives a real number you can act on.

Where do the FluxNote plan costs come from?

Live pricing as of May 2026: Rise $9.99/mo monthly or $7.99/mo annual, Pro $19.99/mo monthly or $15.99/mo annual, Max $49/mo monthly or $39/mo annual. The calculator uses Pro by default because it's the most common active subscription for creators producing 30+ videos per month. Toggle plans to see the difference.

Does this include the cost of stock footage, voice actors, or music?

Not explicitly. Those are extra in a manual workflow (typical stock footage subscriptions run $20–80/mo, a voice actor is $25–200 per video, royalty-free music libraries are $15–30/mo). FluxNote includes AI-generated voice, AI visuals, and licensed music in its plans, so when you compare apples to apples those costs disappear on the AI side.

Is this calculator biased toward FluxNote?

Yes — we built it, and the defaults match real-world workflows where AI saves significant time and money. That said, every input is editable and the math is transparent. If your actual manual workflow is faster than the defaults, the savings shrink. Try it with your own numbers.
