A before-and-after video should explain a real change. Use this cross-industry guide to plan the comparison, preserve the evidence and build a clear creative brief without fabricating customer outcomes.

Separate the evidence from the creative
Start with genuine source material showing the initial state, the work performed and the resulting state. Use comparable framing and lighting so that editing does not exaggerate the difference. State any conditions that a viewer needs to understand the result.
AI can help develop a storyboard, narration or illustrative creative, but a generated transformation is not evidence that a product or service achieved that result. Label a hypothetical demonstration as illustrative.
Never invent a customer testimonial or present generated footage as a real completed job. For sensitive health, financial or other regulated claims, obtain appropriate review before choosing this format.
A reusable four-part storyboard
| Part | What to show | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Starting point | The actual issue or task | Permission to use the material; no exaggerated damage |
| Process | The work or product being demonstrated | The steps shown match what happened |
| Result | A comparable view of the outcome | No misleading crop, filter or generated alteration |
| Next step | A relevant enquiry, product or service link | The offer matches the example |
Write one sentence for each part before selecting effects. If the result needs a lengthy explanation, use a longer walkthrough instead of forcing it into a dramatic reveal. A comparison is useful only when viewers can understand what changed and what did not.
Adapt the format to the industry
| Industry | Useful comparison | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting | An illustrative document handover before and after organisation | Invented tax savings, confidential records or promised returns |
| Architecture and interiors | Approved project images or clearly labelled design concepts | Presenting a render as a completed build |
| Construction and repairs | Real site photographs documenting the same job | Editing away defects or implying safety certification |
| Ecommerce | Actual setup, assembly or use of the item sold | Changing the product's size, colour or performance |
| Education and creative services | An example draft and its revision | Guaranteed student outcomes or invented client endorsements |
| Health and personal services | A reviewed educational process explanation | Fabricated treatment results or body transformations |
This is a planning framework, not a statement that every platform permits every example. Check the relevant advertising rules and permissions for the specific service before publishing. Some offers are better explained through a process walkthrough than a before-and-after claim.
Prepare a FluxNote creative brief
Choose FluxNote's video or Ad Studio workflow according to whether you need an illustrative scene or a promotional concept. Describe the audience, the real task, the evidence you have and the action you want the viewer to take. Keep factual source material separate from generated drafts.
Example brief: 'Develop a promotional storyboard for an office organisation service. Use a clearly labelled illustrative example of a document handover. Explain the process, do not invent time savings or financial results. Leave space for our approved real photographs and finish with an invitation to discuss the service.'
Explore FluxNote for the creative stage. Review the available editing controls and export options in the app.
If a precise side-by-side layout or matched-footage edit is not available in your chosen workflow, assemble that comparison in an editor that supports it. Do not generate replacement evidence just to fit a template.
Pre-publication checklist
Confirm that the two states describe the same subject and a fair comparison. Check timestamps, permissions, labels and any measurable claims against the original records. Review the full clip, including intermediate frames, rather than approving only the thumbnail.
Watch without sound to check whether the difference and any necessary qualifications remain understandable. Preview on a phone and inspect the landing page. Keep disclosures readable rather than hiding them under player controls or a large call to action.
Ask someone unfamiliar with the project what they think the video promises. If their interpretation goes beyond what you can substantiate, change the presentation. Save the approved script, source material and export so future revisions can be reviewed against the same evidence.
Evaluate the result without assuming a sales lift
Track the enquiries or purchases relevant to the offer, not only views. Record the audience, placement and landing page alongside the creative version. Compare one meaningful change at a time, such as the opening explanation, while recognising that small samples and changing demand can make results noisy.
A before-and-after format is not automatically better than a demonstration or a straightforward explanation. Keep the version that helps suitable customers understand the offer. If viewers repeatedly misunderstand the result, replace the reveal with a step-by-step process video rather than adding more dramatic effects.
Pro Tips
- Use matching source material for a fair comparison.
- Clearly label illustrative concepts and generated scenes.
- Do not imply every customer will achieve the example result.
