How to Cancel Synthesia Subscription

Cancel Synthesia (Starter or Creator plan) through your profile icon, then Account Info, then Billing, using the three-dot menu to find Cancel your subscription. You retain access through the end of your current billing period. Critically: Synthesia's Terms of Service state that all purchases are non-cancelable and non-refundable. Enterprise and annual plan customers face the harshest version of this policy. You will lose access to your videos once your billing period ends, so download everything before it expires.

How to Cancel Synthesia (Starter and Creator Plans)

Synthesia self-serve cancellation is available for Starter and Creator plan subscribers. As of June 2026, per Synthesia's knowledge base, the steps are:

  1. 1Log into your Synthesia account at synthesia.io
  2. 2Click your user profile icon
  3. 3Select Account Info
  4. 4Navigate to Billing
  5. 5Click the three-dot menu (ellipsis icon)
  6. 6Select Cancel your subscription
  7. 7Confirm cancellation

After cancellation, Synthesia will display a banner showing the date your access ends. You retain full access through the end of your current billing period.

If you cancel by mistake: Synthesia gives you a 48-hour window to reverse an accidental cancellation. Contact Synthesia support via live chat or email within 48 hours and they can reinstate the subscription. After 48 hours, the cancellation is treated as final.

How to Cancel a Synthesia Enterprise or Annual Plan

Enterprise plans and annual contracts at Synthesia are custom-negotiated agreements. They are not self-serve and cannot be canceled through the account settings billing menu.

For enterprise plans:

  • Contact your Synthesia account manager or customer success representative directly
  • Review your contract for specific notice periods and renewal terms. Many enterprise agreements include auto-renewal clauses that require 30 to 90 days written notice before the renewal date to avoid another full annual charge
  • Synthesia's standard Terms of Service explicitly state that purchases are non-cancelable and non-refundable. Enterprise contracts may have bespoke terms, but the standard position is no mid-term exit

If you are approaching an annual renewal date and do not want to renew, send a written cancellation notice to your Synthesia contact at least 30 days before renewal to document your intent. Do not assume non-payment constitutes cancellation.

For business plan customers not on a custom enterprise deal, use the same Billing > three-dot menu flow described above. If you do not see a cancellation option, contact [email protected].

Will I Get a Refund If I Cancel Synthesia?

Synthesia's refund position is one of the strictest in the AI video category. As of June 2026, Synthesia's Terms of Service and refund article both state:

All purchases are non-cancelable and non-refundable.

This applies to:

  • Monthly plans
  • Annual plans
  • Enterprise contracts (unless your specific contract states otherwise)

There is no grace period, no 14-day cooling-off window (outside of applicable consumer protection law in your jurisdiction), and no prorated refund for unused months on an annual plan.

Exceptions that may exist: if you are in a jurisdiction with statutory consumer cooling-off rights (such as the EU's 14-day right of withdrawal, or UK consumer regulations), those legal rights may supersede Synthesia's policy. Contact Synthesia support with reference to the applicable consumer protection law in your region.

For a billing error (e.g., double charge, charge after confirmed cancellation), contact [email protected] with documentation. Billing errors are handled separately from refund requests.

Practical advice: if you are on an annual plan and unhappy with Synthesia, your most realistic option is to use the product through the end of your annual term rather than pursue a refund. Plan future subscriptions month-to-month first to evaluate fit before committing annually.

What Happens to Your Videos After Cancellation?

This is where Synthesia differs significantly from most competitors: after your billing period ends, you lose access to your videos.

Per Synthesia's help documentation, as of June 2026: once your billing period ends, you lose access to Synthesia and all videos in your account.

This means:

  • Your video library is not accessible after expiration, even on the free tier
  • If you want to keep any video you created in Synthesia, you must download it before your subscription ends
  • Videos you have shared via a Synthesia link may become unavailable after expiration

Action required before canceling

Go to your Synthesia video library and download every video you want to keep. Export in your preferred format. Do this while you still have active paid access.

Synthesia does have a free plan. On the free plan you can create a limited number of videos per month. However, videos from your paid plan are not migrated to the free tier, so they are inaccessible unless you re-subscribe.

What to Use Instead of Synthesia

Synthesia is designed for corporate training videos, internal communications, and HR content: professional presenter-on-screen delivery using AI avatars with no human camera required.

For enterprise corporate training with avatar presenters.

HeyGen is the most direct alternative at comparable pricing. Both tools use AI avatars to deliver scripted content. HeyGen has broader language support and more avatar options at most price points.

For sales enablement and personalized video.

Colossyan focuses on AI presenter video for sales teams. Loom (from Atlassian) handles asynchronous video messaging without requiring AI avatars.

For faceless marketing video (the use case Synthesia does not cover well).

Synthesia is specifically for avatar-presenter content, not for product ads, UGC-style video, or social marketing content. If you used Synthesia for external marketing and found it too corporate or rigid, that reflects a genuine product category mismatch. FluxNote ($10 to $49/month) generates faceless marketing videos from a script: AI visuals, voiceover, captions, optimized for product demos, ads, and social content. No avatar, no studio, no template drag-and-drop required.

For lower-cost avatar video.

D-ID and Hour One both offer AI avatar video at lower starting prices than Synthesia's enterprise tier.
